RESTORATION TO LIKE NEW CONDITION
I Recently asked Larry
at Feland's Gunsmithing to restore an Ithaca Flues model pigeon gun to original, like new condition. The gun was in poor shape. Someone had
apparently used steel wool to rub off the original finish on the stock &
all the case colored parts. The barrels were off face, and the barrels
ribs weren't properly soldered together. In short, the gun was a disaster.

I just received the restored gun, and I
have to say that it's just about perfect. The action is properly
case colored, the barrels were trued and re-blued without a ripple, the
action is back on face, the stock is refinished and re-checkered. It looks
like a Brand New Gun from about 1912, and I couldn't be happier. It was
well worth the time and money and I'd do it again in a second. In fact,
I'm ready now! [Rick McClintock,

You're in a foreign
country, the people speak funny, and your gun falls out of the cart
cracking the stock.
WHAT DO
YOU DO ?
Unfortunately, this very scenario took
place at the 2005 Pan American FITASC held at Westside Sporting Grounds
west of Houston, Texas. It was indeed
a very unlucky accident for one English chap, Ashley Le Sech, shooting in the FITASC event.
Driving slowly towards a practice field, the strap gave way and out
tumbled his prized Kemen.
Upon
inspection, his worst fears were realized. The butt stock was broken
in half. A few locals pointed and
said to go to Larry Feland, a Houston area gunsmith, who was available on the grounds for
the event.
Larry left the shooting
event with what looked to be an unsalvageable butt stock. With
twenty-five years background of restoration
experience he was able to return three hours later with the gun repaired, in time for the remainder of the competition. Not only was the stock repaired, but
it also looked beautiful. Even when the location of the crack was
pointed out to onlookers, no remnants of the crack nor the repair could be seen.
Yes, that smile on this competitor's face
reflects genuine relief.
